Bowlegs
Bowlegs also referred to as Genu Varum or bandiness is a physical deformity which leads to outward bowing of the lower leg in relation to the thigh. The condition makes a person’s knees stay wide apart while standing with feet and ankles together, with the appearance of an archer’s bow. This condition may affect one or both legs. Most people assume the only way to straighten bow legs is by having surgery. We’ve already established that surgery is both risky and expensive to straighten bowlegs or knock-knees.
Causes of Bow legs
Achondroplasia
Blount's disease
Bone dysplasia
Bone dysplasias
Caffey's disease
Camptomelic dysplasia
Congenital

Lead intoxication
Lead or fluoride intoxication
Malnutrition
Marfan's syndrome
Metabolic bone disease
Metaphyseal chondrodysplasia, Schmid type
Osteoarthritis

Pseudoachondroplasia
Rickets
Spondylometaphyseal dysplasia with bowed forearms and facial dysmorphism - bow legs
Vitamin C deficiency
Weismann-Netter-Stuhl syndrome
etc
Treatment
No treatment is recommended for bowlegs unless the condition is extreme. The child should be seen by the provider at least every 6 months.
Special shoes, braces, or casts can be tried if the condition is severe or the child also has another disease. It is unclear how well these work.
At times, surgery is done to correct the deformity in an adolescent with severe bowlegs.
